Wait one minute before you open the feed.

Before Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube: sit for 60 seconds, then decide. This is Mozy, running free in your browser instead of on your phone.

· Coach's note ·

Doomscrolling isn't a willpower gap, it's a design. Those apps are built to skip the part of your brain that decides. This timer drops a 60-second speed bump before you open one, often long enough for the urge to just fade. It's the same idea our Mozy app runs on your phone, here for free in the browser.

The science behind it

Scrolling runs on a habit loop: cue (boredom), routine (open app), reward (dopamine). The loop lives in your basal ganglia, which is why you open the app before you've decided to. A deliberate pause inserts a gap the loop can't cross on autopilot.

Implementation intentions ('if I feel the urge, then I wait a minute') are one of the most replicated findings in behavioral science; they work precisely because they pre-decide the moment. The pause isn't punishment, it's the pre-decision, and the streak turns a one-off effort into a pattern your brain starts to expect.

Scroll Pause Timer, answered

Using social media on purpose instead of by muscle memory. A 60-second pause before the app opens gives your brain a chance to choose rather than just react.
